Bridesmaid dress shopping

Wedding season is fast approaching and with it your worst nightmare: shopping with bridesmaids who hate their legs, arms, bums and tums but expect you to find the perfect dress to suit them all.

We thought that we’d give you one less wedding related drama to worry about… Here are the perfect dresses for bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes:

The “I hate my arms” bridesmaid:

Red bridesmaid dress with angel sleeves

The key here is to avoid bandeau, bardots and tight fitting sleeves and to go for something crepe and floaty. For example, this stunning Scarlett & Jo dress is made from a non-clingy chiffon fabric with angel sleeves that float gracefully over the shoulders; hiding any wobbly bits without covering up absolutely everything. The embellishment detail on each shoulder also gives the dress a sparkly focus point that helps to bring unwanted attention away from the arms.

The pear shape bridesmaid:

Blue teal bridesmaid dress with wrap front

With pear shape figures, it’s all about finding middle ground, literally. Flatter the upper body and waist with something that ties or pulls in at the middle. This gorgeous teal number hugs the bust and highlights the waist perfectly, whilst the wrap over skirt opens up the front of the dress allowing it to fall gracefully around you. Total regal vibes!

The expecting bridesmaid:

Maternity plus size bridesmaid dress

When pregnant, it’s easy to feel like whatever you’re wearing looks like a sack. To avoid this drama, separate the bump from your figure by wearing something that features a tie beneath the bust. This will help to break up the shape of your body and enhance your curves in all the right places. Heat can also be a problem when you’re expecting, especially in the summer months! We recommend a knee length dress made from a lightweight fabric with short sleeves to help with cooling down.

The apple shape bridesmaid:

Two words: skater dresses. Find a dress that is tight fitting at the top, pulls in at the middle and then poofs out at the bottom. This will enhance your figure to give you a perfectly proportional hourglass shape. And don’t be afraid to show off your legs! This floral midi dress is a super flattering length for apple shape figures and it’s perfect for spring summer weddings. We also recommend adding a petticoat or underskirt to help with poof volume/ the princess look.

The blessed with fabulous assets bridesmaid:

Plus size lilac bridesmaid dress with lace detail

As jealous of them as we may be, larger bust sizes are not always easy to dress. We would suggest avoiding anything that reveals a lot of cleavage; we don’t want a Janet Jackson Superbowl moment on our hands! However, there’s no need to hide your fabulous curves. Why not try something like this Sienna Couture skater dress? It’s tightly fitted around the top half to give your figure definition, whilst the flared skirt works to highlight your waist. Plus the lilac and lace panel combo is totally wedding chic!
